The research project entitled “Valorisation of Agricultural Residues via Anaerobic Digestion: from Biogas to Carboxylates” conducted under the direction of Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Orhan İnce was completed on August 17, 2023.

The project supported by the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean Countries Joint Innovation and Research Activities Network ERANet-LAC Multilateral Cooperation Program focuses on the improper disposal of agricultural residues, which is one of the most important environmental problems.

Within the scope of the research conducted under the coordination of Germany-based Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) with the partnership of Istanbul Technical University (Türkiye), Federal Institute of Goiás (Brazil) and ESPOL Polytechnic University (Ecuador), various agricultural residues and different strategies were investigated to enable the transition from anaerobic digestion to anaerobic fermentation during the treatment process, the potential for the production of carboxylate with high economic value was investigated, and important scientific results were obtained.
