ITU Graduate’s Letter Reached Aziz Sancar on the 100th Anniversary of Our Republic
The letter written by İpek Kışlalı, a graduate of ITU Department of Astronautical Engineering, within the scope of the “Letter to the 100th Anniversary of our Republic in 2023 Campaign,” was delivered to the Turkish scientist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, winner of Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

The one-page letter written by İpek Kışlalı, a graduate of Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Department of Aeronautical Engineering, to be given to a Turkish scientist who will receive a Nobel Prize in the future, within the scope of the “Letter to the 100th Anniversary of our Republic Campaign” organized by PTT in 2002, was delivered to Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, winner of Nobel Prize in Chemistry, after 21 years, on the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.

The following lines in the letter dated July 2002, which Prof. Dr. Sancar opened at the Sancar Turkish Cultural and Community Center in North Carolina, USA, attracted attention: “Distinguished Scientist, hello from 21 years ago! When you receive this letter, we can be proud knowing that our steps in science have accelerated and our international prestige has increased. I would like to remind you of the deep happiness we feel that a Turk who contributed to the future of humanity is a candidate to be crowned with the Nobel Prize.”
