Honorary Doctorate from ITU to ICOC President Şekib Avdagiç

Şekib Avdagiç, President of the Executive Board of ICOC, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the decision of the ITU Senate, in a ceremony held at Ayazağa Campus SDCC on December 12, 2023.

Şekib Avdagiç, President of the Executive Board of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, was presented an honorary doctorate certificate by the Senate of Istanbul Technical University in a ceremony hald at ITU Ayazağa Campus Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center on December 12, 2023.

At the opening of the ceremony, our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu emphasized the contributions of the educated workforce trained by ITU to the development of our country and said the following: “We all know very well that Istanbul Technical University is always proud of its graduates. Whether in our country or in many other parts of the world, a graduate of ours who wears a bee badge continues to do work worthy of the name of the Technical University and make us proud. Mr. Şekib Avdagiç is one of our very valuable graduates who proudly wears the bee badge on his lapel.”

Our Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Şule Itır Satoğlu, on behalf of the ITU Senate, read the reason for awarding an honorary doctorate to Avdagiç as follows: “We are proud to present an honorary doctorate to Şekib Avdagiç in recognition of his efforts to make Turkish companies have a greater say in the world and to increase commercial efficiency and social benefits by transforming Türkiye’s trade environment into an innovative and dynamic structure with a global vision.”

Şekib Avdagiç received his honorary diploma from our Rector Prof. Dr. Koyuncu and thanked the ITU Senate with his speech titled “The journey from Sarajevo to Istanbul, from ITU to ICOC,” in which he touched upon his experiences in his professional life, his memories of ITU that left a trace in his personal history and his views on the future of commercial activities in Türkiye.
