ITU’s First Microcredential Course: “New Media and Communication”
The first extracurricular training course at ITU, for which students earn microcredentials, was opened by the Directorate of Communication. With the course named “New Media and Communication,” students have the opportunity to develop their specific skills and interests that are not included in the engineering curriculum.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) offers its students the opportunity to increase their social skills besides their academic development. The first extracurricular training course was opened at the Directorate of Communication within the scope of the microcredential application, which aims to develop students’ innovative and entrepreneurial aspects.
The first extracurricular training earning microcredentials entitled “New Media and Communication,” which will be given by ITU Communication Director Adem Dönmez for a total of 30 hours during the 2023-2024 Fall Semester, was attended by 15 students. The lectures given within the scope of the training were held at ITU Ayazağa Campus Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center. Students who chose the course had the opportunity to earn 1 ECTS microcredential in their diploma supplement while developing themselves in a special field.
ITU Communication Director Adem Dönmez stated that the fact that the first training of the microcredential application, which was implemented in 2023, was given at the Directorate of Communication, emphasized the importance of developing proper communication to students. Dönmez invited all students with a GPA above 2.00 to participate in extracurricular trainings for which they will earn microcredentials.
To earn microcredentials
Participation in scientific research projects, participation in extracurricular trainings, student club activities, work in project teams are all reflected in the diploma supplement with microcredentials. Students who apply on VETİ for the extracurricular activity they choose earn 1 microcredential after participating for 30 hours. In order to apply for microcredentials students must have a GPA above 2.00.
