The introductory meeting of Anatolia, a solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicle designed by ITUNOM, one of Istanbul Technical University’s project teams that attracted attention with the projects it designed and the awards it won in both national and international competitions, was held at ITU Ayazağa Campus, Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center.
The Anatolia project, which is a first in Türkiye with its environmentally friendly solar technology, aims to achieve maximum flight time with the help of solar panels by reducing the power consumption of the cruising vehicle and to be used in civilian areas for observation purposes.
“Anatolia will be able to make long flights without using fossil fuels…”
Our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, who attended the introductory meeting of Anatolia, emphasized in his speech that one of the strengths of ITU is the importance and support it gives to student activities, clubs and project teams and said the following:
“The R&D project launched by our friends today is a project that has precedents in the world but has not yet been implemented in Türkiye. The ‘Anatolia’ project, which can be summarized as a solar power-enabled unmanned aerial vehicle, was born from the idea of being able to make long flights without using fossil fuels.”
Following the presentation in which details about the project were shared, the area where the projects KV-55, ROVER, TOSUN and ŞİMŞEK developed by ITUNOM and awarded in national and international competitions were exhibited, became the center of attention of the visitors.
