ITU’s Projects Became the Center of Attention at Ankara TEKNOFEST

ITU stand became the center of attention of visitors at TEKNOFEST held in Ankara. ITU project teams attracted attention with the projects they developed.

17 project teams from Istanbul Technical University participated in the aerospace and technology festival TEKNOFEST, which was held for the first time at Ankara Etimesgut Airport between 30 August and 3 September. The festival, organized by the Turkish Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation) and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, was visited by around one million people. ITU stand became the center of attention of technology and science enthusiasts.  

First prize to military dog robot “Proteo”

The military robot dog “Proteo” project, designed by a team of ten people, consisting of ITU students and graduates, led by Çayan Baykal, Yunus Demir and Ömer Demirci, won the first prize in the “Entrepreneurship Competition” organized as part of TEKNOFEST.

The Proteo project, which participated in the competition in the “Aerospace and defense” category, is aimed to be used in missions in areas such as nuclear power plants that may be dangerous for humans and in search and surveying activities in military zones.

“Solar Powered UAV” will play a role in the security of borders and forests

Another project that attracted attention at TEKNOFEST was the “Solar Powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle”, whose design and software belongs to a group of 12 people consisting entirely of ITU students. One of the main objectives of the solar powered UAV, which has a wingspan of 8 meters and can stay in the air for 8.5 hours, is to prevent the environmental damage caused by such vehicles and to reduce carbon emissions.

ITU students who developed the project announced the launch of the project in November and stated that the solar powered UAV can be used to prevent fire disasters or to establish border security by patrolling forests and borders.
