ITU Students Start Their Careers with “MasterBee”

At ITU, the university of firsts, “MasterBee” program, a first in our country with its contribution to university-industry cooperation, in which undergraduate and graduate processes are carried out together with stakeholders from the business world, continues to attract great interest in ITU Promotion and Preference Days.

The common wish of young graduates is to be able to find a job that suits their qualifications, meets their expectations and they will like doing after the undergraduate period, and this is true for all students not only in Türkiye but also in the world… In addition to graduating from a good university, preparing for business life during the undergraduate period and having the chance to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired throughout their education with internships oriented for their fields of expertise opens a different career path to young people.

Internship and master’s all in one

Within the scope of ITU’s MasterBee program, students are entitled to taking graduate courses starting from the 4^th grade. With the MasterBee program, students have the opportunity to complete their master’s education in a short time and to start life one step ahead. Istanbul Technical University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Şule Itır Satoğlu gave important information about the MasterBee program: “Thanks to MasterBee, students prepare for business life while also doing their master’s. They support the academic knowledge they acquire during the university period with practice in the field. Students who complete their master’s degree effectively in a short time quickly proceed with their Ph.D. in Türkiye and abroad if they wish. Graduates who do not want to continue their career in the academia start business life much more effectively without losing time.”

A faster and more effective master’s education

ITU students who want to attend the MasterBee program, in which undergraduate and graduate processes are carried out together, must have a GPA of 3.00 at the beginning of their sixth semester. Our Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Şule Itır Satoğlu gave information about the MasterBee program and said, “With MasterBee, students take non-credit graduate courses starting from the fourth grade and have the opportunity to complete the master’s course stage more quickly. In this way, with the MasterBee program that offers the opportunity to start graduate studies, do an internship and adapt to business life from the fourth grade, undergraduate and graduate processes can be carried out together.”

Opportunity to start business life without losing time

When the MasterBee process starts, each student included in the program will have an academic advisor. These students will be given internship opportunity in Türkiye’s prestigious companies with which ITU is in collaboration.

Extracurricular activities are given credit at ITU

ITU attaches great importance to the advancement of social skills as well as the academic development of its students. Students’ participation in organizations such as clubs, project teams, and their active participation in various events and competitions are given credit and reflected in their transcripts. This concept, called “micro-credit”, allows students to contribute directly to their academic success through extracurricular activities. ITU students, who improve their skills by socializing, also enjoy the advantage of taking course credits.

Various flexibilities for students

Students who are entitled to study at ITU can receive English education within the framework of Undergraduate Prepatory Program at ITU School of Foreign Languages before starting their undergraduate education for at least one and at most two semesters by taking into consideration their language proficiency levels. Students who prefer and are placed at ITU from the top 100 students according to the placement order can have their foreign language education in the USA for a year if they wish.

There are double major and minor programs for students who are interested in another department besides the department they are studying and want to gain competence. In addition, with the Erasmus+ student exchange, the doors of many universities in Europe are opened to ITU students.

Double Major Program enables students enrolled in one major program to be able to enroll in another program, provided that they satisfy certain conditions. In order to meet this condition, their GPA should be at least 3.00. Students can apply to the announced programs at the 3rd semester at the earliest and 5th semester at the latest of the major undergraduate program.

With the minor education, ITU also allows students enrolled in one undergraduate program to take courses from another educational program they are interested in, provided that they satisfy certain conditions. Students are also given the opportunity to transfer to another department. ITU has agreements with approximately 360 institutions within the scope of Erasmus+.
