Young Woman Scientist Award to our Faculty Member
Our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Ağaoğulları was awarded the 2022 Young Woman Scientist Award in the field of physical sciences within the scope of the “For Women in Science” award program implemented with the cooperation of L’Oréal Türkiye and Turkish National Commission for UNESCO.

Our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Ağaoğulları was awarded the 2022 Young Woman Scientist Award in the field of physical sciences, which is given to four women scientists in the fields of life and environmental sciences and physical sciences within the scope of the “For Women in Science” award program, which has been implemented for twenty years with the cooperation of L’Oréal Türkiye and Turkish National Commission for UNESCO to support gender equality in science, to encourage women’s contribution to science, to crown young and talented women scientists and to make them better known. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ağaoğulları was also entitled to receive a scientific research support of 120 thousand TL within the scope of the award.
The 20th anniversary of the “For Women in Science” program in Türkiye, which aims to create role models for future generations, was celebrated with a very special launch event attended by L’Oréal Türkiye General Manager Sinem Sandıkçı Gökçen, Turkish National Commission for UNESCO President Prof. Dr. M. Öcal Oğuz, and writer and actress Gülse Birsel. The launch event was hosted by writer and voice actor Yekta Kopan.
Speaking about the “For Women in Science” program, L’Oréal Türkiye General Manager Sinem Sandıkçı Gökçen said, “We are in a time when we are in dire need of not only science but also gender equality in science. We will continue to work with even greater passion to reward outstanding achievement in science, to contribute to talented women scientists getting the recognition they deserve, and to inspire young girls to become scientists by creating role models.”
With her project, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Ağaoğulları reveals the advanced-technology boron products usage potential of Türkiye, which has approximately 75% of the world’s boron reserves. With the project, our country’s own resources will become much more efficient and profitable.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Ağaoğulları
She received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in 2004, 2006 and 2014, respectively. Ağaoğulları, who also graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering with a Double Major Program during her undergraduate education, was appointed as an Assistant Professor to the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in 2020. In 2021, Ağaoğulları obtained the title of Associate Professor and received various national and international awards as well as undertaking administrative duties in various institutions and organizations. She is currently the co-director of the “Particle Materials Laboratories” and the director of the “Graphene and Two-Dimensional Materials Laboratory”.
