International Boron Symposium at ITU

ITU hosted the International Boron Symposium (BORON 2022) on October 5-7. The international symposium, attended by a large number of participants from public and private sector representatives to scientists, was held at ITU Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center between 5-7 October.

On its 250th anniversary, Istanbul Technical University (ITU) organized the International Boron Symposium (BORON 2022), which focused on boron, an element of strategic importance for Turkey, in cooperation with Eti Maden and TENMAK. Mining of boron, boron industry and advanced boron technologies were discussed extensively in the light of current developments at the symposium held at ITU Ayazağa Campus Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center on 5-7 October 2022.

While Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez attended the opening ceremony of the symposium via video link, Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Şeref Kalaycı, ETİ Maden General Manager Serkan Keleşer, TENMAK President Prof. Dr. Abdülkadir Balıkçı, Head of TENMAK BOREN Prof. Dr. Abdülkerim Yörükoğlu and our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu made a speech each. Prof. Dr. Koyuncu emphasized the importance of advanced research on boron and ITU’s institutional identity focusing on R&D and said, “I hope this symposium will provide unique insights on the key areas of boron technologies.”

A wide range of current research on topics such as the extraction of boron, the use of boron in agriculture, energy, health, materials science and various industries, and boron recovery were discussed in sessions held in Turkish and English. While scientists from many different universities of the world, as well as Turkey, made oral presentations, there were also poster presentations in the symposium. In addition, representatives of public institutions and private sector introduced themselves to the attendants of the symposium at the stands, and gave information about boron products and technologies used in the boron industry.

BORON 2022 Symposium, held with the motto “Meet Us in the Boron Country to Design the Future with Boron”, ended after the closing speeches on 7 October. Click for detailed information about the symposium and to access the program.
