ITU Ranks 1st in Turkey in 5 Areas of Academic Ranking of World Universities

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) ranked first in Turkey in five different areas of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy announced the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2022, in which world universities are evaluated by subject in the most comprehensive and objective way. This year’s evaluation contains rankings of universities in 54 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences.

The rankings use a range of objective academic indicators and data to measure the performance of world universities in respective subjects, including research output, research influence, international collaboration, research quality, and international academic awards.

In GRAS 2022, the index of international academic awards is based on Academic Excellence Survey (AES) conducted by ShanghaiRanking. More than 1000 professors from top world universities have participated in the survey. Their responses have revealed 180 top journals in 52 subjects, 36 top awards in 29 subjects, and 31 top conferences for Computer Science and Engineering.

ITU ranks 1st in 5 areas

In ShanghaiRanking 2022 by subject, ITU ranked 1st in Turkey in a total of 5 areas including Earth Science, Atmospheric Science, Oceanography, Marine and Ocean Engineering, and Civil Engineering.

ITU ranks 26th in the world in Marine and Ocean Engineering 

Of the 6 headings of ShanghaiRanking in which it ranked, ITU ranked among the world’s top 500 universities in Earth Sciences. In the field of Marine and Ocean Engineering, it ranked 26th in the world. While ITU ranked among the world’s top 200 universities in the field of Oceanography, it ranked among the world’s top 300 universities in the field of Civil Engineering.
