İTÜ at the Forefront of TÜBİTAK’s Field-Based Competence Map
Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is at the forefront of “Field-Based Competence Analysis of Universities” published by TÜBİTAK in the fields of environmental sciences, wastewater treatment technologies, construction, architecture, energy, aeronautical and astronautical technologies, material sciences, and natural sciences.

TÜBİTAK published “Field-Based Competence Analysis of Universities” that allows comparative evaluation of universities’ research performances on the basis of technology subfields. Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is at the forefrontin the fields of environmental sciences, wastewater treatmenttechnologies, construction, architecture, energy, aeronautical and astronautical technologies, material sciences, and natural sciences.
In the study announced by TÜBİTAK that includes 131 technology subfields, the technology fields to be analyzed were determined by considering the evaluation of TÜBİTAK advisory and group executive board as well as experts from its research centers and institutes based on the field classification used in the previous study, “All Science Journal Classification” (ASJC), critical technology areas in terms of the country’s needs and security addressed in Turkey’s various policy documents, and educational areas of universities.
“Field-Based Competence Analysis of Universities” enables analyzing in which of the technology subfields that a university conducts research activities it is relatively more competent.
“Field-Based Competence Analysis of Universities” is implemented for supporting data-baseddecision making mechanisms in various critical processes such as determining national policies, regional plans. and institutional strategies.
