On 31 August 2026, Prof. Dr. Tan Tieniu, Chair of the Nanjing University CPC Council, ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, and academics from both universities met at the Senate Hall of the Rectorate Building on ITU’s Ayazağa Campus. The cooperation meeting shaped the potential areas of joint work around the following themes: advanced materials and the circular economy, clean energy and energy storage, climate and Earth sciences and sustainability, photovoltaics, and smart energy systems.
Our Rector emphasized that ITU has long maintained strong ties with China in science, technology, and highly qualified human capital. Prof. Dr. Mandal noted that beyond the academic collaborations ITU conducts with institutions in China, these relations are being transformed into a culture of co‑development and working together through joint laboratories and research centers. He stated that the new process initiated with Nanjing University, one of China’s oldest and most distinguished research universities, represents a strong continuation of ITU’s approach to internationalization. He added that a roadmap has been developed to turn the topics discussed during the meeting into lasting collaborations. This roadmap includes joint workshops, new joint laboratories and research centers, student and researcher mobility, short‑term programs, and summer and winter schools.
