ITU and BIT Signed Agreement to Establish a Joint Laboratory

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), one of China’s leading institutions in engineering and high technology fields, have launched a strategic collaboration. ITU and BIT signed both the establishment agreement for the International Joint Laboratory on Carbon Neutrality of Systems Engineering and a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

On 30 July, ITU hosted the BIT delegation at the Rectorate Senate Hall on the Ayazağa Campus. ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, BIT Vice President Prof. Dr. Yang Fan, and representatives from both institutions came together for the signing ceremony that will elevate the cooperation to a new level.

Under the agreement, the joint laboratory will operate through the collaboration of the ITU Synthetic Fuels & Chemicals Technology Center (ITU SENTEK) and the BIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEP-BIT). This partnership between the two universities goes beyond academia, embracing a shared vision of a sustainable future, global green transformation, and joint production.

The laboratory will conduct interdisciplinary research in clean energy and carbon emission technologies, low carbon energy systems, carbon management and carbon markets, energy transition and storage technologies, and advanced functional materials.

Aiming to strengthen researcher and student mobility, develop joint projects, and produce high impact scientific outputs, the international joint laboratory will contribute to cultivating young talent on a global scale and generating innovative solutions in sustainable technology.

The signed MoU aims to strengthen international academic cooperation in the field of carbon neutrality

Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal emphasized the great value of bringing together two long established technical institutions around a shared research vision. He stated that this collaboration, which unites scientific expertise toward common goals, will further reinforce ITU’s internationalization approach through a culture of co creation and joint development.
