ITU Student and Alumna Met with Nobel Laureates

ITU Chemistry student Senem Dila Yılmaz and Elif Önel, a 2026 alumna of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, attended the 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting with the support of TÜBİTAK 2224‑C – Grant Program for Participation in Scientific Meetings Abroad within the Framework of International Agreements.

Our Department of Chemistry student Senem Dila Yılmaz and our Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics alumna Elif Önel took part in the 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (#LINO75) held on Lindau Island, Germany. The meeting took place between June 28 and July 3, 2026.

This distinguished scientific gathering brought together around 70 Nobel Laureates and 636 young researchers selected from various countries around the world. The participation of our student and alumna as two young researchers representing Türkiye made the ITU family proud.

Senem Dila Yılmaz and Elif Önel shared their experiences from the meeting with ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal. He emphasized that Istanbul Technical University places great value on the active involvement of its students and graduates in the international research ecosystem. Congratulating our student Senem Dila Yılmaz and our alumna Elif Önel for representing Türkiye successfully, our Rector expressed his confidence that they will achieve many more international accomplishments in their scientific journeys.

Prof. Dr. Mandal highlighted that the meetings ITU members held with Nobel Laureates, the experiences they gained in the international research ecosystem, and the scientific connections they established with young researchers from different countries strengthen their research culture, pave the way for new collaborations, and make significant contributions to their scientific paths.

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, founded in 1951 to rebuild trust through dialogue and knowledge after World War II, have evolved into a global forum for scientific exchange and international cooperation.

The 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting focuses on the themes of resilience, information, integrity, and life, emphasizing the interconnected challenges that shape our world. These focal areas are reflected not only in the program’s sessions but also in a schematic and visual framework, designed to make the relationships between the themes intuitive and accessible at a glance. Rather than presenting them as isolated topics, the meeting highlights their continuous interaction.
