Memorandum of Understanding Between ITU and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU)
Istanbul Technical University (ITU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), one of China’s long established research universities, to further strengthen academic and scientific cooperation.

The MoU was signed on 22
July 2026 during a meeting held at ITU’s Ayazağa Campus, where ITU Rector Prof.
Dr. Hasan Mandal and SJTU Vice President Prof. Dr. Zhang Zhaoguo formalized the
agreement, elevating the collaboration between the two universities to a more
advanced level.
Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan
Mandal emphasized that the agreement establishes a strong foundation for:
• developing joint research
projects,
• launching joint academic
programmes,
• enhancing the mobility of
researchers, faculty members, and students, and
• creating new models of
collaboration that will strengthen international experience.
Prof. Dr. Mandal expressed
his belief that this partnership with Shanghai Jiao Tong University will
further enhance the research capacity of both institutions, contribute to
global scientific knowledge, and reinforce a long‑term, sustainable culture of
working together.
During the meeting in which
the MoU was signed, opportunities for joint research and project development in
medical robotics, intelligent transportation systems, civil engineering,
information technologies, and new energy technologies were comprehensively
evaluated. Collaborative research initiatives in medical robotics emerged as
one of the priority areas for future cooperation.
The discussions also
covered organizing joint academic seminars, increasing the mobility of
researchers, faculty members, and students, and establishing sustainable
communication mechanisms between the international offices of ITU and SJTU.
