ITU Crowns Its Global Success in the Prestigious QS Rankings with Türkiye’s Top Position
Istanbul Technical University (ITU) has achieved its best-ever result in the QS World University Rankings 2027, rising to 279th place worldwide. Among the 25 universities from Türkiye included in the ranking, ITU secured the top position.

ITU delivered a remarkable performance in the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, one of the world’s most respected university ranking systems. In the 2027 edition, ITU climbed to 279th place globally, becoming the highest-ranked university from Türkiye.
Having entered the world’s top 300 universities for the first time last year, ITU advanced by an additional 19 places this year, marking its strongest result to date in the QS World University Rankings. The 2027 edition evaluated 1,504 higher education institutions worldwide, including 25 from Türkiye.
ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal emphasized that this achievement represents not only an upward movement in the rankings but also a significant indicator of the university’s growing international impact in research, education, and innovation.
Rector Prof. Dr. Mandal shared the following remarks:
“This result reflects ITU’s determination to align its 253-year legacy with the needs of the future, as well as the university’s expanding global influence. Our rising research intensity, citation performance, and employer reputation demonstrate that the value we generate in education, research, and innovation is recognized on a global scale. This success is the collective outcome of the ITU ecosystem, which brings together diverse disciplines, strong research infrastructures, and all our stakeholders around shared goals. Our aim is to further strengthen ITU not only in Türkiye but also globally, positioning it as a pioneering research university that produces solutions to the challenges of the future.”
About the Ranking
In the QS World University Rankings, universities are evaluated across the categories of Research and Discovery, Employability and Outcomes, Learning Experience, Global Engagement, and Sustainability.
In the 2027 results, ITU’s research intensity was classified as “very high” by QS. The indicators used in the ranking measure universities’ scientific output, the employability of their graduates, international academic connections, and global visibility.
ITU’s position as Türkiye’s top university in the QS World University Rankings 2027 stands out as an important reference point for prospective students during the university preference period.
With its strong educational and research ecosystem spanning engineering, architecture, basic sciences, design, technology, and entrepreneurship, ITU ranked first among the universities from Türkiye included in the list.
