IUGG Vladimir Keilis-Borok Medal Awarded to Our Alum
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Bozdağ, who completed both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Geophysical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), has been awarded the prestigious 2026 IUGG Vladimir Keilis-Borok Medal—one of the most respected honors in the international scientific community.

Associate Professor Dr. Ebru Bozdağ earned her bachelor’s degree in 2000 and her master’s degree in 2002 from the Department of Geophysical Engineering at ITU. She also worked as a research assistant at the department between 2002 and 2004. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bozdağ has been awarded the 2026 IUGG Vladimir Keilis-Borok Medal. The award was conferred by the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) Commission on Mathematical Geophysics.
The medal recognizes mid‑career scientists who have made important contributions to the field of mathematical geophysics. Assoc. Prof. Bozdağ was selected for her outstanding contribution to computational seismology and for the development of advanced methodologies in adjoint tomography, optimal misfit functions, and data compression, which have helped advance fundamental knowledge of the Earth’s interior. The medal will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences, to be held in Montreal on 23–28 August.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Bozdağ is currently a faculty member at Colorado School of Mines. Her research focuses on computational and global seismology. Using 3D seismic wave simulations, Dr. Bozdağ contributes to a better understanding of the internal structure and dynamics of the Earth and other planets, as well as to the reduction of seismic hazards.
We congratulate our alum, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Bozdağ, and wish her continued success.
