Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues to expand its academic
partnerships on the international stage. An academic delegation led by BUCT Council
Chair Prof. Dr. Liu Guiqin met with ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and ITU
faculty members. The meeting took place on 9 April 2026 at the Rectorate Senate
Hall on the Ayazağa Campus.
The meeting, which enabled productive
exchanges of ideas for academic cooperation, addressed projects that
researchers from different disciplines could jointly develop, as well as new
opportunities for collaboration. Discussions also focused on strengthening the
sustainable nature of the partnership and advancing it toward a high‑impact
structure.
Prof. Dr. Mandal and Prof. Dr. Liu signed
a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the meeting.
Our Rector stated that the meeting
brought together the strong research capacities of the two universities and
that they comprehensively examined cooperation areas that would form a basis
for joint projects. He emphasized that the two institutions, both with long‑standing
academic traditions, reached a mutual understanding on further advancing their
experience particularly in chemical engineering and metallurgy‑materials
engineering. He noted that they formalized the collaboration— which will take
shape through joint projects enhanced by innovative technologies such as
artificial intelligence and intelligent and autonomous systems— with the
signatures they exchanged.
The memorandum of understanding between
ITU and BUCT aims to advance joint efforts across a wide range of areas, from
collaborative research activities to graduate‑level academic partnerships, from
student and researcher mobility to the establishment of joint laboratories in
priority fields. A roadmap was defined for developing joint graduate programs,
initiating co‑supervised doctoral processes, and deepening research activities
in a way that produces concrete outcomes.
ITU faculty members shared ongoing
research conducted within the university through their presentations to the
BUCT representatives. In addition, BUCT academics carried out examinations in
the laboratories of our Faculty of Chemical‑Metallurgical Engineering.
Our Rector had previously visited BUCT in
December 2025 as part of meetings and discussions in China.
