QS World University Rankings by Subject

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject, indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, h-index, and international research network are used with varying weights. The impact of these indicators differs across 5 broad subject areas and 55 narrow subject areas. The number of universities applying in each subject varies, and QS does not include universities that fall below certain threshold values in the rankings; these institutions are therefore not able to participate. These threshold values account for the difference between the number of universities analyzed and those included in the rankings. The thresholds vary for each subfield, and accordingly, between 50 and 800 universities were included in each subfield of the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject. A total of 1,908 universities were included in the rankings.
