ITU Will Host the WAITRO Summit 2026

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) will host the 2026 summit of WAITRO, a global research and innovation network with nearly 200 members from more than 70 countries. Held under the theme “Leading the Path of Implementation: Strengthening Co-Creation for Our Common Future”, the summit focuses on turning vision into tangible action.

From 26 to 28 October, 2026, a diverse group of stakeholders—including universities, the private sector, public institutions, and research centres—will gather under ITU’s roof. The event aims to transform knowledge production into concrete solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, while fostering collaboration among R&D communities worldwide.

ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, who also serves as President of WAITRO, emphasized that the summit is designed not just for dialogue but to generate concrete outcomes. He noted that approaches focused on co-creation and joint implementation will take centre stage throughout the event. Highlighting ITU’s vision as “A Responsibility-Driven and Impact-Oriented Research University”, Prof. Mandal reaffirmed the university’s commitment to turning research and technology into practical solutions for a shared future and leading global collaborations.
