Horizon Europe MSCA-SE Funding Awarded to the “ExCISC – Exchange of Best Practices in Collaborative Intelligence for Safety-Critical Applications” Project

Dr. Mehmet Tunçel, a lecturer at the Istanbul Technical University Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Research and Application Center (ITU AI), is among the beneficiaries of the “ExCISC – Exchange of Best Practices in Collaborative Intelligence for Safety-Critical Applications” project, which has been awarded funding under the European Union Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Staff Exchanges (MSCA-SE) programme.

The 48-month ExCISC project, coordinated by Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), is an international research initiative that aims to develop collaborative intelligence systems designed to strengthen human decision-making in safety-critical domains, in line with the European Union’s vision for ethical, inclusive, and human-centric artificial intelligence and the Industry 5.0 approach. The project brings together expertise in artificial intelligence, robotics, human factors, neuroergonomics, system safety, cybersecurity, and ethical and legal expertise to produce deployable solutions in real industrial environments. Approaches based on explainable AI, adaptive automation, and human-in-the-loop paradigms will be evaluated in experimental application and test platforms that replicate real-world conditions, with the goal of developing trustworthy, transparent, and interpretable AI solutions.

Under the MSCA-SE programme, the project is carried out by an international consortium of 20 partners from 8 countries, including universities, research centers, and industry and technology companies, and aims to promote:

• knowledge and technology transfer,
• joint R&D capacity building,
• interdisciplinary collaboration,
• academia–industry interaction.
