As the only partner from Türkiye, ITU plays a leading role in the STAND project. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İkilem Göcek, from the Department of Textile Engineering, serves as one of the two lead partners with the highest budget shares within the eight-member international consortium. The project team also includes Prof. Dr. Cevza Candan from Textile Engineering Department and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merve Acer Kalafat from Mechanical Engineering Department.

The total budget for the project, carried out in collaboration with an international consortium comprising universities, research institutes, and private-sector companies, is 4,185,790 euros. The project was supported by the European Commission as a Research and Innovation Action (HORIZON-RIA) focusing on direct R&D activities.

Systems to be developed using a patient-centered design approach

As part of the project, Innovative Advanced Materials (IAMs), flexible electronics, and AI-enabled autonomous sensing technologies are being integrated to develop innovative solutions that enable early intervention and support patient self-management. Offering a robust innovation roadmap spanning from fundamental materials science research to clinical applications, STAND concretely demonstrates the social, health, and economic impact of IAM-based e-textile technologies; through systems developed using a patient-centered design approach, it delivers sustainable and scalable solutions

STAND not only highlights ITU’s strong research capabilities in advanced materials, smart textiles, and health technologies on an international level but also strengthens its vision of developing innovative solutions to global health challenges through European Union-funded projects.

We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Dr. İkilem Göcek, who led the project, and all the academics on the project team, and wish them continued success.
