Our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal Participated in the 10th UN Technology Bank Council Meeting

ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal participated in the discussions held within the framework of the 10th Council Meeting of the UN Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), of which he serves as the Chair, and shared evaluations on strategic priorities and global collaborations.

Serving as the Chair of the Council of the UN Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal attended the sessions conducted as part of the 10th UN Technology Bank Council Meeting.

During the meeting held on December 11, 2025, at the TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus, the UN Technology Bank’s strategic priorities and planning efforts for the upcoming period were discussed in detail. The evaluations focused on key priority areas aimed at strengthening the science, technology, and innovation capacities of the least developed countries. The meeting continued online on December 12.

Prof. Dr. Mandal has been a Member of the Council of the United Nations Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries (UNTB) since January 1, 2020, and has been serving as the Chair of the Council since January 2024.

Global partnerships and the role of universities discussed

As part of the council meetings, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mandal also met with the Managing Director of the UN Technology Bank, Deodat Maharaj. Prof. Dr. Mandal stated that they held productive consultations regarding the programmes implemented by the institution, global partnerships, and the potential contributions that universities can offer to these structures.

Sharing his assessments regarding the meeting, our Rector emphasized that Istanbul Technical University will continue to contribute with determination to initiatives that transform knowledge production into societal and global benefit.

The UN Technology Bank opened its doors in Gebze in 2018, marking the realization in Türkiye of target 17.8 under the Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
