TÜBİTAK 1005 Support for the Project Aiming to Bring a New Perspective to Superconductivity in High-Entropy Materials at ITU

The project titled “Use of High-Entropy Alloys/Ceramics for Superconducting Applications: Simulation, Synthesis, and Characterization Studies,” led by Research Assistant Burçak Boztemur from the İTÜ Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, has received support under the TÜBİTAK 1005 - National New Ideas and New Products Research Funding Program.

The project, led by Res. Asst. Burçak Boztemur, titled “Use of High-Entropy Alloys/Ceramics for Superconducting Applications: Simulation, Synthesis, and Characterization Studies,” was deemed worthy of support for a period of 18 months under the TÜBİTAK 1005 - National New Ideas and New Products Research Funding Program.

The project, which will be one of the first studies in Türkiye to examine the superconducting potential of high-entropy materials and develop their application areas, will include the following researchers from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering: Assoc. Prof. Duygu Ağaoğulları (Doctoral Thesis Advisor), Asst. Prof. Cevat Fahir Arısoy, and Prof. Dr. Haluk Koralay from the Gazi University Department of Physics. Additionally, Prof. Dr. M. Lütfi Öveçoğlu, a retired faculty member of our department who is currently working at the MEF University Department of Mechanical Engineering, will be included as a consultant.

This project, which aims to explain the fundamental mechanism of superconductivity on high-entropy materials, is predicted to create a significant impact in the field of advanced technologies, both in Türkiye and globally. The production of high-entropy materials using powder metallurgy methods will be carried out at the ITU Particulate Materials Laboratory, which is led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Ağaoğulları. Collaboration for studying superconducting behavior will be established with Prof. Michael Eisterer (Vienna University of Technology) and Prof. Valentin Taufour (University of California, Davis). The goal of this project is to bring a new perspective to the field of superconductivity regarding high-entropy materials, which have been studied for many years in the ITU Particulate Materials Laboratories. The project outputs are planned to be prepared as a doctoral thesis belonging to the principal investigator, Res. Asst. Boztemur.
