ITU Tops the Most Influential Scientists List with the Most Scientists from Türkiye

In the 2023 list of the world’s most influential scientists, announced annually through the cooperation of Elsevier and Stanford University, 66 academics from ITU were included in “Annual Impact” category, while 72 academics from ITU were included in “Career-Long Impact” category. There has been a steady increase in the number of ITU members included in the list for the last 5 years.

2023 results of the list of most influential scientists of the world compiled annually through the cooperation of Elsevier and Stanford University has been announced. The list included 223,152 scientists in the “Annual Impact” category and 217,097 scientists in the “Career-Long Impact” category. The rankings were based on objective criteria such as number of high-quality publications, number of citations, number of patents, h-index and hm-index of academics.

ITU became the university with the highest number of scientists from Türkiye in the “Career-Long Impact” and “Annual Impact” lists compiled by Elsevier and Stanford University. In the “Annual Impact” and “Career-Long Impact” rankings, our academics who stand out with their scientific activities in various sub-fields including Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, Energy, Environmental Engineering, Geochemistry and Geophysics, Polymer, Mining and Metallurgy, Networks and Telecommunications were included.

66 ITU academics in Annual Impact!

In the list with a total of 1,518 academics from Türkiye in the “Annual Impact” category, 66 academics from Istanbul Technical University were included. According to the field ranking in the “Annual Impact” category, while there are 5 ITU academics in the top 100, 24 in the top 500, and 46 in the top 1,000 in our country, there are 3 ITU academics in the top 100, 18 in the top 500, and 35 in the top 1,000 in the world.

72 ITU academics in Career-Long Impact!

In the list with a total of 1,172 academics from Türkiye in the “Career-Long Impact” category, 72 academics from ITU were included. According to the field ranking in the “Career-Long Impact” category, while there are 8 ITU academics in the top 100, 41 in the top 500, and 61 in the top 1,000 in Türkiye, there are 3 ITU academics in the top 100, 19 in the top 500, and 35 in the top 1,000 in the world. 

Steady rise

According to the results announced in the past 5 years, ITU has shown a steady rise in both categories. The list included 45 ITU academics in 2020, 50 in 2021, 51 in 2022, 62 in 2023, and 66 in 2024 in the “Annual Impact” category. In the “Career-Long Impact” category, 39 ITU academics were listed in 2020, 52 in 2021, 60 in 2022, 67 in 2023, and 72 in 2024.
