News: İTÜ Media and Communication Office

Department of Environmental Engineering faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra Altuntaş received support from the ERA Fellowship within the scope of the European Executive Research Agency (REA) Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships, which promotes excellence in research.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra Altuntaş’s project entitled “Development of Innovative Membrane and Cold Atmospheric Plasma Reactor for the Degradation of Per and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)”, abbreviated as Memb-CAP, received funding support of 148,500 euros.

With this project, it is planned to produce an innovative water treatment reactor (Memb-CAP) by combining cold atmospheric plasma and membrane technology for the mineralization of toxic and carcinogenic per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are pollutants of concern, from water. The Memb-CAP reactor designed in this study aims to achieve significant results to ensure the large-scale applicability of cold atmospheric plasma processes in water/wastewater treatment.

The project will be conducted at ITU Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering and Prof. Dr. Dincer Topacık National Membrane Technologies Research Center (MEM-TEK) for two years under the consultancy of Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu.

About Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra Altuntaş

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kübra Altuntaş works at ITU Environmental Engineering Department on advanced oxidation processes and water and wastewater treatment with nanoparticles, which are her main research interests. During her academic career, our faculty member was supported by Marie S. Curie Action Individual Fellowship while she was at the University of Padova as a doctoral researcher, and she worked in Prof. Paradisi’s laboratory for 3 years on the development of cold atmospheric plasma reactors. In addition, Dr. Altuntaş has been involved in many TÜBİTAK, British Council (Newton Fund) and European Union (Horizon, H2020) projects as an executive and researcher.
