Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues to strengthen its academic and scientific collaborations on a global scale. ITU Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Sciences and MARIN (Netherlands) further strengthened their cooperation that has been going on for the last two years with a protocol.
The protocol agreement was signed between MARIN and ITU in November 2023 for a period of 5 years. MARIN will give scholarships to students enrolled in graduate programs at ITU Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Sciences. The programs in question were specified as Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering, Offshore Engineering, and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
PhD students will be in the Netherlands for the last two years
The students enrolled in the graduate program will have a thesis advisor from both ITU and MARIN. The thesis topic will be determined jointly by the advisors at both institutions. The official graduation of the student will take place with a defense at ITU.
At the master’s level, in addition to the defense at ITU, the student will also present his/her thesis to MARIN in the Netherlands. Travel and hotel expenses will be covered by MARIN. At the PhD level, the student will be able to spend the first two years in Türkiye and the last two years in the Netherlands. MARIN will pay a scholarship of approximately 500 Euros during the student’s time in Türkiye, and approximately 1500 Euros during the time in the Netherlands.
To date, two of our graduate students have received scholarships and two academic publications have been made within the scope of the cooperation. These numbers are expected to increase significantly with the cooperation protocol.
