Two Awards from CoHE to ITU

Istanbul Technical University received two awards at the Outstanding Achievement Awards given at the Higher Education Academic Year Opening Ceremony.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues to attract attention with its efforts within the scope of its 250th Anniversary. At the 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony, two Outstanding Achievement Awards were given to ITU by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE).  

At the ceremony held at Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Istanbul Technical University won two awards for its Digital Turkish Music Library project and BeeHub platform. 

While our Digital Turkish Music Library project carried out by ITU TMSC was deemed worthy of the Social Responsibility Award, our “BeeHub” platform was deemed worthy of the Digital Transformation and Big Data Studies Award. The awards were presented to our project coordinators by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.  

About ITU TMSC Digital Turkish Music Library 

Under the ITU TMSC Prof. Ercümend Berker & Prof. Ş. Şehvar Beşiroğlu Library project coordinated by ITU TMSC Director Prof. Dr. Ali Tüfekçi, over 45 thousand precious materials kept in Archive and Documentation Center have been cataloged and digitized in order to protect the cultural heritage of Turkish music. Thus, the sources of Turkish music about to be lost were gathered under a single roof. Thanks to the project, thousands of works have been passed on to future generations.  

The 16-month-long ITU TMDK Turkish Music Cultural Heritage Digitization Project started on December 1, 2021 and was completed on March 31, 2023. All resources were made available to researchers at the Turkish Music Digital Library’s address http://tmdkarsiv.itu.edu.tr/. 

About Beehub 

Beehub Integrated Big Data Platform coordinated by our Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata, which started to be developed by ITU in 2021 and put into service in 2022, enables the monitoring, evaluation and interpretation of institutional data at specified intervals (instant, daily, weekly, monthly). Beehub ensures that the big data ecosystem, which is the subject of advanced digital transformation, is produced on the basis of scientific research. 

Beehub makes significant contributions to ITU’s digital transformation. The data on this platform provides important information to support the university’s strategic decisions, manage resources effectively, improve student experience and measure academic performance.
