Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Chemical-Metallurgical Engineering, Department of Food Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Esra Çapanoğlu Güven was deemed worthy of “Georg Forster Research Award” given by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany for lifelong scientific contributions. Georg Forster Research Award is given each year to up to ten researchers from developing countries who contribute to science at the international level with their work in their field and bring solutions to the problems of developing countries, regardless of their research field.

Working in the field of food chemistry, our faculty member continues to make important contributions through the research of methods to increase the bioavailability of bioactive compounds, as well as her expertise in the field of the effects of food matrix and processing techniques on the content and bioavailability of phenolic compounds and other bioactive substances, in addition to waste valorization. During her studies in Germany for a year, to be hosted by Prof. Dr. Tuba Esatbeyoğlu from Hannover Leibniz University, our faculty member aims to focus on the effect of new non-thermal technologies on the amount, bioaccessibility and bioavailability of bioactive compounds in different food matrices and to valorize food wastes and by-products for functional food design.
