Our Graduate Prof. Dr. Mahmut Özer Appointed as Minister of National Education
Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Electrical and Electronics Faculty, Electronics and Communication Engineering Department 1992 graduate Prof. Dr. Mahmut Özer became the Minister of National Education.

According to the decision signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette, ITU Electronics and Communication Engineering Department 1992 graduate Prof. Dr. Mahmut Özer was appointed as the Minister of National Education.
The following was stated in the decision in the Appointment Decisions section of the Official Gazette regarding our graduate Dr. Mahmut Özer, who has been serving as Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Education since August 8, 2018:
Prof. Dr. Mahmut Özer has been appointed to the Ministry of National Education, vacated by Prof. Dr. Ziya Selçuk who requested to be released from office and whose request has been accepted, in accordance with Articles 104 and 106 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey.
We congratulate our esteemed graduate for his appointment as the Minister of National Education and wish him success.
Prof. Dr. Mahmut Özer
Born in Tokat on May 5, 1970, Prof. Dr. Mahmut ÖZER graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (1992). Between 1992 and 1994, he worked as an Electronics Engineer at Dalaman Airport, General Directorate of State Airports Administration (DHMI). He completed his Master's and PhD at Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), Graduate Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1996 and 2001, respectively. He worked as a Lecturer at Gazi Osmanpaşa University between 1994 and 2002 and as a Lecturer at Zonguldak Karaelmas University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrics and Electronics Engineering between 2002 and 2010.
Özer was Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University from November 28, 2010 to October 4, 2017 and was President of the Inter-University Council (UAK) from August 1, 2015 to August 1, 2016. Özer also served as an Executive Board Member and Deputy President of the Vocational Qualifications Authority (VQA) and as a Member of the General Assembly of the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE), and was appointed as Chairman of the Center for Evaluation, Selection and Placement (OSYM) on October 4, 2017. Özer, who is currently President of the Association of Quality Assurance Agencies of the Islamic World (AQAAIW), was appointed as Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Education on August 8, 2018.
