ITU in Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)
Istanbul Technical University (ITU) is in 400nd row of “Engineering and Natural Sciences” area of Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and 1st in Turkey in a total of 5 different areas.

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy has announced the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2021, which evaluates world universities in the most comprehensive and objective ranking. This year's evaluation contains rankings of universities in 54 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences.
The Rankings use a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of world universities in relevant subjects, including international academic awards, top academic achievements, research quality, and international collaboration.
In GRAS 2021, the index of international academic awards is based on Academic Excellence Survey (AES) conducted by ShanghaiRanking. By February 2021, more than 1000 professors from top world universities have participated in the survey. They are from 95 universities and 17 countries/regions, covering 64 subjects. Their responses have revealed 164 top journals in 48 subjects, 32 top awards in 27 subjects, and 26 top conferences for Computer Science & Engineering.
ITU is 1st in a total of 5 areas
ITU took the 1st place in Turkey in a total of 5 areas of ShanghaiRanking 2021 area based rankings including Earth Sciences, Atmospheric Science, Oceanography, Marine Engineering, and Mining & Mineral Engineering
ITU is in the world’s first 50 in Marine Engineering
ITU ranked among the top 400 universities in the world in the fields of Physics and Earth Sciences under a total of 6 subjects in ShanghaiRanking. While it was among the first 150 universities in the world in the field of oceanography, it was among the top 100 universities in the world in the field of Mineral and Mining Engineering. ITU achieved a great success by being among the world’s first 50 universities in Marine Engineering.
