We Talked about Our Scientific Adventure at the Poles with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy
This week İTÜ Science and Technology Talks hosted İTÜ Maritime Faculty Faculty Member and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Polar Research Institute Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy. In the talk held online on İTÜ’s social media accounts under the title Our Scientific Adventure at the Poles, Dr. Özsoy gave important messages about scientific studies in Antarctica and climate change.

This week İTÜ Science and Technology Talks hosted Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy, who was recently given the “TÜBA-GEBİP Polar Studies Award” in a ceremony held at the Presidential Complex. In the talk held online on İTÜ’s social media accounts and moderated by İTÜ Media and Communication Office News Editor Osman Keskin, Dr. Özsoy shared her İTÜ adventure starting from student years and her scientific journey.
Stating that Istanbul Technical University Polar Research Application and Research Center (İTÜ PolReC) was established in 2015 and is the first polar research center of Turkey, Özsoy said, “Istanbul Technical University Polar Research Application and Research Center has served as a major platform since the day it was founded. Through expeditions realized under the auspices of the Presidency and the responsibility of Ministry of Industry and Technology, it presented opportunities to scientists who wanted to work at the region.”
Dr. Burcu Özsoy expressed that until today National Antarctica Scientific Expeditions were held 4 times under the auspices of the Presidency, the responsibility of Ministry of Industry and Technology, and the coordination of İTÜ and TÜBİTAK KARE. She stated that studies for the new expedition continue rapidly on the basis of project application despite the pandemic conditions.
