Our Faculty Member Dr. Ali Mohammadi Received CAS-PIFI Research Award

Dr. Ali Mohammadi, a faculty member of Istanbul Technical University Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences, has been granted the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) Research Award.

With his project “Witnesses of the Missing Late Cretaceous Magmatic Arc in Iranian Azerbaijan,” Dr. Mohammadi will continue his studies in the People’s Republic of China. His research interests include tectonics, provenance analysis, sedimentology, petrology, limnology, and surface dynamics. He has authored 35 scientific articles on Iran, Türkiye, and Russia, all published in international peer-reviewed journals.

About the PIFI Research Award

Hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) supports distinguished senior researchers from all disciplines, enabling them to conduct projects of critical importance for the future development of their countries and regions. Prospective candidates must demonstrate a long record of independent research; a well-defined, mature scientific profile; and a strong publication history in international peer-reviewed journals. 

About Dr. Ali Mohammadi

Dr. Mohammadi earned his BSc in Geology from the University of Tabriz and his MSc in Geology from the University of Tehran. From 2004 to 2011, he served as a geologist at the Geological Survey of Iran. He completed his PhD (2011–2015) and subsequent post-doctoral research (2015–2017) at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. He then worked as a researcher at the University of Tabriz (2017–2018) and the Geological Survey of Iran (2018–2019). Since 2019, he has been a faculty member at the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences, Istanbul Technical University.
